Getting new employees working sooner

The Marion County Health Department

Case Studies

The Marion County Health Department needed courses designed for new employees to complete at their own pace, so their time would be freed up for job-shadowing and leadership meetings. For their seven topics, we designed & developed bite-sized eLearning courses ranging between 5-15 minutes.

Course Topics:

  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse
  • Mandatory Reporting
  • Incident Reporting
  • Client Complaints
  • Purchasing & Reimbursement
  • HR & Payroll
  • Bloodborne Pathogens

[Our] experience working with Idea Learning Group was wonderful – communication was great. Loved having the tracking logs to enter changes, see what is being done, and what has been completed. It made it easy to track edits. Any time we had a question or didn’t understand, the Learning Consultant responded quickly with answers and feedback.

Project Owner

Instead of spending most of the first week of employment in orientation and a 4-hour classroom session, new employees now:

    • Day 1:
      • Attend a 30-minute orientation.
      • Complete new hire paperwork.
    • Week 1:
      • Meet with peers, job-shadow, learn their new workplace.
      • Complete eLearning at their own pace while their peers are on break, in confidential client-meetings or other tasks where shadowing isn’t appropriate.

Supervisors like new staff reporting to their station sooner, which allows them to get new staff involved right away.

The Marion County Health Department, in collaboration with community partners, provides and purchases high quality services which promote individual and community health to all people in Marion County.
